'Khairy will not be joining any political party'

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin will not be joining any political party, nor will he form a new one in the near future.

A source within Perikatan Nasional (PN) said this following Khairy's meeting with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, yesterday.

"He said he will not join Bersatu or any political party, and will not form a new party.

"However, he (Khairy) is ready to help PN campaign in the state elections," the source told Berita Harian today.

Khairy, who is also former health minister, yesterday shared a photo of himself with Muhyiddin on social media, with no caption included.

In the photo, both individuals were smiling.

Bersatu information chief Datuk Razali Idris had confirmed the meeting, which was held at Muhyiddin's home in Bukit Damansara, but declined to provide further details.

Previously, the media had reported that Khairy would be meeting with PN leadership allegedly to discuss his participation in the coalition.

In May, Muhyiddin, who is also PN chairman, had offered Khairy a position in the Bersatu supreme council.

He had said his offer was not to "bait" Khairy, but as there were two vacancies in the leadership.

The former Rembau member of Parliament was sacked from Umno in January after acting against party rules.
