Kelantan govt offers free bus service for uni students returning to Kelantan to vote

KOTA BARU: The state government is providing free bus service for university students who will return to Kelantan to vote.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said the offer was to help the students who reside outside the state to return to cast their votes on Aug 12.

He said that the programme, handled by Kelantan Treasury Office and the State Development Office, would see the return journey to Kelantan taking place between Aug 6 and 11, while the journey back to their respective states would be between Aug 13 to 15.

"University students are free to exercise their right to choose any candidate or political party.

"I hope this free service will help ease the burden of students and their parents," he said in a statement.

Ahmad said the state government was aware of the need for university students to fulfil their responsibility for the future of the nation.

"Their involvement as voters in elections has a significant impact on nation-building on the democratic stage.

"Therefore, their voting rights cannot be denied solely due to economic and cost-of-living pressures," he added.
