Ahmad Yakob admits health, age his reason for bowing out as MB

TUMPAT: Caretaker Kelantan menteri besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob today admitted that health issues are the reason he decided to step down from the post.

The Pasir Pekan candidate said he had expressed his intention to Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and several senior party leaders.

"I am not well. I fell twice and have a slipped disc as well as heart problems.

"I officially informed the party leaders early this year," he told reporters after casting his vote at SMK Kampung Laut here today.

Ahmad also cited age as another reason for his decision.

The 73-year-old former teacher became Kelantan menteri besar in 2013, replacing Tan Sri Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat.

Abdul Hadi was reported as saying today that Ahmad wanted to step down due to his poor health.

He also said that change in leadership is needed to give Kelantan a new spirit.
