GEORGE TOWN: Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Bayan Lepas state seat, Azrul Mahathir Aziz, has claimed victory for the seat.
He defeated state Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Dominic Lau Hoe Chai.
"Alhamdullilah, based on unofficial result, I have won the Bayan Lepas state seat with a 2,454 vote-majority.
"There are still 1,400 votes which have yet to be counted.
"I have managed to defend the Bayan Lepas state seat. We will ensure to make good on the mandate given by the people to us," he said in a short video footage.
Azrul thanked the election machinery from Umno and Amanah who had helped him throughout the campaign period.
"I also thank all the voters for choosing the unity government," he added.
