Public holiday announced for Kedah today, Selangor and Negri Sembilan tomorrow

KUALA LUMPUR: It will be a public holiday tomorrow for Selangor, Negri Sembilan and Kedah today after both Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional retained their states, by winning two-thirds majority based on unofficial results of the state elections.

As of midnight, PH and BN won 32 out of the 56 state assembly seats in Selangor, exceeding the two-third/simple majority mark of 29 out of 37 seats to form the state government.

On Friday, state PH chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had said there will be a state holiday on Aug 14 if the PH-BN coalition wins the state election.

PH contested in 44 seats (PKR-20, DAP-15 and Amanah-nine), while BN contested 2 seats in the state polls on Saturday.

Meanwhile, caretaker Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun declared Monday as an occasional holiday for the state.

Aminuddin, who is the state PH chairman, made the announcement following the unity government's victory in the Aug 12 state election.

It was reported that PH won 17 seats while its partner in the unity government, Barisan Nasional, won 14 seats in the Negri Sembilan state election.

In Kedah, caretaker menteri besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor who retained his Jeneri seat by an overwhelming majority of 16,050 votes, announced on Saturday that Kedah will enjoy a public holiday today if Perikatan Nasional (PN) won enough seats to retain the state government in the state election.

PN won 33 out of 36 seats in Kedah, handing them the win.
