ALOR STAR: Kedah Perikatan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has been sworn-in as the state's 14th Menteri Besar for the second term at Istana Anak Bukit here today.
Sanusi, 49, took the oath about 10.15am in front of Sultan of Kedah Al-Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah.
Present were Kedah state secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali and state Financial Officer Datuk Isahak Murat.
Sanusi was nominated by PN as the menteri besar after the coalition won the 15th state election on Saturday by securing 33 out of 36 total seats in the state legislative assembly.
In the polls, Sanusi retained his Jeneri seat for the second term after defeating Barisan Nasional candidate Datuk Muhamad Khizri Abu Kassim.
The PN election director won the Jeneri seat for the first time in the previous state election, held simultaneously with the 14th General Election (GE14) in 2018.
He had defeated BN incumbent Mahadzir Abdul Hamid and Mohd Nazri Abu Hassan from Bersatu in the polls.
On May 17, 2020, Sanusi was appointed as the menteri besar to succeed Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, who relinquished the post after he lost the majority support from Kedah state assemblymen.
He has served as the menteri besar for three years before the dissolution of the state assembly to pave way for the state election.
