Bersatu Youth doubts Speaker will allow 'rogue' MP seats be vacated

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu Youth doubts the Dewan Rakyat speaker will give in to their request to vacate the seats of the members of parliament who declared their support for the unity government.

Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said this was based on their previous experience with Tan Sri Johari Abdul involving Bersatu and the four MPs and state assemblymen who left the party after the 15th General Election.

The four MPs sparked a storm when Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced that he and other state and federal leaders were leaving Bersatu en masse to join Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) in 2022.

The four MPs are Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Batu Sapi MP Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, Sipitang MP Datuk Matbali Musah and Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin.

"We need to submit the amendments to our constitution to the Registar of Societies (RoS). Once that is completed, then we will proceed with other actions, especially sending a letter to the speaker.

"Judging on what went over with our previous case with GRS, I do not think he will support our request to vacate those seats," Wan Fayhsal said at the sidelines of the Perikatan Nasional MPs and Assemblymen Convention, here, today.

He assured Bersatu would use whatever means possible, especially legal means, to ensure that the six seats would be vacated.
