Bersatu initiates action against 6 MPs backing unity government

HULU SELANGOR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) said the party is in the process of taking action against six of its members of Parliament, who declared their support for the unity government.

The confirmation came from Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said action against the six MPs would be in accordance with the party's amended Constitution.

Muhyiddin, who is also Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman and Pagoh MP, declined to provide details on the actions to be taken against the six MPs.

"I have already explained at length (on the actions to be taken against the six MPs) previously. So, I do not need to go over it again, because it is part of the party's strategy.

"However, I can confirm that action will be taken according to the provisions in the Federal Constitution, the party constitution as well as the Anti-Party Hopping Act.

"We will comply with the procedures so that we make no mistakes. Those responsible must face whatever actions that are taken against them," he told reporters here today.

It was previously reported that Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin has delivered notices on the status of six party MPs, who announced their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the unity government.

The MPs are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abu Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

On a separate matter, Muhyiddin also advised non-Malay voters in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state constituency to not boycott the by-election.

"Please do not boycott the by-election. If you are not happy (with the performance of the federal government), use your rights to vote and let us win the by-election so that we can be an effective opposition.

"However, if we boycott the by-election by abstaining from voting, it is a loss for everyone," he said.
