PKR Sabah awaits decision from Anwar amid ongoing leadership crisis

KOTA KINABALU: PKR Sabah is still waiting for an official decision to be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to resolve its leadership crisis that has been ongoing since March.

Sepanggar Member of Parliament, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, said the resolution of the issue lies entirely in the hands of Anwar, the party's president.

"We are just waiting for the decision to be made by the president. He has promised this, and PKR members, especially in Sabah, are encouraged to be patient.

"The decision will be made together with several other states that will change their chairmen.

"The president is also visiting several other states, so we will just wait," he said at a media session on science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) here last night.

The Sabah PKR crisis arose after 15 branch chairmen led by Kota Marudu chairman, Sazalye Donol Abdullah, announced early last month that they had lost confidence in the current MPN chairman, Datuk Dr. Sangkar Rasam, and requested his resignation.

Mustapha's name was then mentioned among those supported to take over the position if Anwar decided to change the current State Leadership Council (MPN) chairman.

At the meeting on April 20, Anwar explained that he would make a decision after consulting with all PKR branch chairmen in the state.

However, he hoped that his name, among the dozen others previously mentioned by Anwar, would be considered to lead PKR Sabah if Sangkar's name was dropped.

"We will just wait; there are many other issues that we need to focus on, including those related to the field of science, technology, and mathematics (STEM) to support the country's needs," he said.
