HULU SELANGOR: Independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin refuted claims alleging that she is a proxy for any party to contest in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state assembly by-election.
The 27-year-old logistics company executive denies being sponsored by any party to contest in the by-election.
She said that she is running voluntarily with the support of her family and using her own savings to fund her campaign.
"The accusation of being a proxy for any party is untrue; I have posted a video on TikTok refuting the proxy allegations.
"I am not paid or serving as a proxy for any party, and I have even made a sworn statement at the Commissioner for Oaths office.
"I am contesting in the by-election with my own savings, not being sponsored by any party," she said at a press conference after launching her manifesto for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state assembly by-election here today.
Touching on her manifesto, Ke Xin outlined her commitment to thoroughly study issues related to individual land acquisition and places of worship.
Additionally, she pledges to ensure that the prices of essential goods are constantly monitored, including ensuring access to healthcare facilities for the local residents.
She also promised to provide special transportation for senior citizens who need medical services at the hospital, as well as offering free funeral van services to Kuala Kubu Baharu residents.
Ke Xin added that she has never been a member of any party before.
Entering the second week of the campaign, Ke Xin has only managed to meet 20 per cent of the voters in Kuala Kubu Baharu through face-to-face campaigns.
Explaining the constraints she faces, she attributes it to not having a campaign machinery like other candidates.
"Other parties have their machinery, but I have fewer resources because I don't have the machinery; I only have a small team for campaigning. As a candidate, I conduct my own campaign accompanied by my other friends," she explains.
The Kuala Kubu Baharu state assembly by-election sees a four-cornered contest involving candidates from Pakatan Harapan's (PH) DAP, Pang Sock Tao; Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate from Bersatu, Khairul Azhari Saut; Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) represented by Hafizah Zainuddin and Ke Xin.
The by-election is being held following the passing of its incumbent, Lee Kee Hiong, 58, due to cancer on March 21.
