'No need for me to vacate seat, I didn't defect from Bersatu', says Gua Musang MP

GUA MUSANG: Bersatu's Gua Musang member of parliament Mohd Azizi Abu Naim said that there is no need for him to vacate the seat because he did not defect from the party.

He said that he is not subject to the anti-party hopping law and has never made any statements about leaving Bersatu to join another party up to this day.

"What we might have done were minor offences within the party which are subject to the Registrar of Societies (RoS). So, this requirement to vacate the seat as claimed by Bersatu is very baseless to me. We need to be rational and professional.

He said that a by-election can only be called after an incumbent dies, goes bankrupt, loses sanity or becomes insane.

He added that he looks at it from a legal perspective.

"Whatever the decision, the honourable Speaker has the right to make a decision over the matter. So, the Speaker has his own methods and acts. What we have done before this, we have referred to our lawyers. We did not violate the anti-party hopping law," he said.

However, for him and five other members of parliament, they were ready to accept the letter as stated by Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

"As a member of Bersatu, my colleagues– who include five members of parliament and a state legislative assemblyman –- and I are ready to accept the letter.

"We will see the content of the letter whether it is in the form of action or warning, so we have made an official decision on our part that whatever happens, we still support the leadership of the prime minister and we are with the government's parliamentarians," he said.

Yesterday, the media reported that letters regarding the membership status of six members of parliament and an assemblyman from Bersatu, each supporting the administration of the prime minister and the Selangor Menteri Besar, would be sent next week.

Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said letters would be sent simultaneously to all relevant representatives, immediately after the Kuala Kubu Baharu state assembly by-election is completed.
