KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) has yet to submit a notice on the status of party memberships involving its six members of Parliament, who declared their support for the unity government, to Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
The matter was confirmed by a spokesman from the office of Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who is also Bersatu secretary-general.
The spokesman said Hamzah, who is also the Larut MP, is currently in Makkah to perform the haj.
"Lets wait for Hamzah to return from Makkah but I do not know when.
"Having said that, the notice will be sent to the Dewan Rakyat speaker by Bersatu chief whip Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee," the spokesman told Berita Harian today,
The task of submitting the notice, the spokesman said, is not the responsibility of the party's secretary-general since it involves both the Dewan Rakyat and state legislative assembly.
Hamzah on June 12 said Bersatu has revoked the membership of all its seven elected representatives, who declared their support for the unity government under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's leadership.
He added that party has issued notices to the concerned members, initiating their expulsion without delay.
"In pursuant of the directive issued by Bersatu's supreme council which convened on June 7, 2024, and after informing the Perikatan Nasional leadership council, which convened last night (June 11), immediate notices have been given today to the six wakil rakyat who violated Clause 10.4 of the Bersatu constitution," Hamzah said.
The six MPs, who declared their support for Anwar, are Bukit Gantang's Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang) and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).
Selat Kelang state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari became the seventh elected representative from Bersatu to declare support for unity after announcing his backing for Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
