[UPDATED] PN picks former navy officer as Nenggiri candidate

GUA MUSANG: Perikatan Nasional today named Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, who joined Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) several days ago, as its candidate for the Nenggiri by-election.

The announcement was made by Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud in a simple event in Renok here.

Several top Bersatu and Pas leaders attended the programme, which started at 6pm and ended an hour later.

At a press conference later, PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said all PN leadership at its headquarters, state and divisional levels had agreed to the selection.

He added that Rizwadi, who is a former navy officer, would be contesting under the Pas ticket in the Aug 17 by-election.

"Praise be to God. PN has chosen a young candidate who is active in community work in Nenggiri.

"It will be a tough fight as both candidates from PN and Barisan Nasional are young."

Meanwhile, the 41-year-old Rizwadi, who was the former Gua Musang Pas deputy youth chief, pledged to be loyal to the party and deliver the mandate given to him.

"I promise to give the best service to the people of Nenggiri if I win the battle," said the father of five.

Rizwadi also took an "akujanji" (pledge of oath) in the presence of Nassuruddin and party leaders.
