Pas backs Rizwadi Ismail for Nenggiri by-election, says Hadi Awang

KUALA LUMPUR: Pas today has pledged its support for Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, who is Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's candidate for the Nenggiri state seat by-election in Kelantan.

The statement by Pas came on the heels of rumours suggesting that Rizwadi, who was previously the Gua Musang Pas Youth chief, joined Bersatu two days before he was announced as Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Aug 17 by-election.

Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the Bersatu man is well-acquainted with the locals and that he has good ties with the community, especially the youth in Nenggiri.

"With his military background and proven track record, Pas fully endorses and trusts Rizwadi as a PN candidate.

"We believe he will be an effective representative, committed to safeguarding the welfare and well-being of all Nenggiri residents," he said in a statement today.

Hadi added that Pas has mobilised its party machinery at the state level in Kelantan and nationwide to support Rizwadi, who will contest under the party's symbol in this by-election.

"We hope that the nomination process and campaign period will proceed in a mature, fair, and equitable manner."

Rizwadi was announced as the PN candidate for the by-election, which is set for nomination tomorrow.

Sources said Rizwadi joined Bersatu just two days before the announcement of his candidacy.
