BN, Pas in straight fight for Nenggiri [WATCH]

GUA MUSANG: The Nenggiri state seat by-election will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional and Pas.

BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, 38, will be challenged by Pas' Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, 41, who is representing the Perikatan Nasional coalition, in the Aug 17 polls.

Returning officer for the by-election, Nik Raisnan Daud, said Azmawi's nomination paper was received today at 9.08am. Rizwadi's was received at 9.02am.

Based on the latest Election Commission electoral roll, the state seat has 20,245 registered voters, with 14 of them being early voters.

The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, declared the seat, previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.

Mohd Azizi, who is also Gua Musang Member of Parliament, was among the seven elected representatives dismissed from Bersatu for supporting the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In the Kelantan state election held in August last year, Mohd Azizi won Nenggiri with a narrow majority of 810 votes in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
