'Kluang Amanah disrespectful for asking for Mahkota seat so soon'

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Umno Youth is disappointed with Parti Amanah Negara for demanding the Mahkota state seat so soon after the death of assemblyman Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain.

Johor Umno Youth chief Noor Azleen Ambros said Amanah was not respecting Sharifah Azizah's family.

He said the Kluang Amanah leadership's rash and greedy attitude proved that they had no sympathy in their quest for power.

"Amanah's leadership should set an example by respecting the family of the late Sharifah Azizah by not making public demands so soon.

"This kind of behaviour should not be encouraged as we try to strengthen the ties between the parties in the unity government.

"It is better to discuss matters internally and reach a consensus among leaders in the unity government. This should be the foundation in our efforts to gain the trust of the people."

Today, Kluang Amanah asked to be allowed to contest the Mahkota state seat. The by-election has not been called yet.

Kluang Amanah chief Dr Mohd Zuhan Mohd Zain said the party won the seat in the 14th General Election and contested it in the 2022 state election.

He said Kluang Umno expressing unwillingness to cooperate with one of the parties in Pakatan Harapan had deeply hurt the grassroots, which opened up a chance for enemies to create divides between PH and Barisan Nasional.

Sharifah Azizah, 64, died on Friday.

In the 2022 state polls, the Kluang Wanita Umno chief won the Mahkota state seat for Barisan Nasional in a four-cornered fight.
