Bersatu candidate Rizwadi banks on navy stint to give him the edge

GUA MUSANG: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) candidate for the Nenggiri by-election, Mohd Rizwadi Ismail, will leverage his experience serving in the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) during the by-election campaign period.

Rizwadi, who is contesting under the Pas ticket, said the experience he gained during his 13 years of military service will benefit him during the campaign.

"I have also been active in community work and religious outreach programmes previously and such efforts will make it easier for me to meet the constituents.

"I will also do my best throughout the campaign period with the support of the party machinery," he said in his speech at a ceramah held in Meranto, Gua Musang, last night.

Rizwadi said he decided to settle in Gua Musang after retiring from the RMN and became actively involved in Pas as a member.

He said joining Pas did not bring him any benefit as he was not working as a contractor or a businessman.

He added that he lived in Kampung Bertam and had helped the villagers.

"After that, I was appointed to several positions within Gua Musang Pas, which some might perceive as high-paying roles. However, I struggled to buy even a bag of rice."

He said although political work did not bring any financial gain, he would continue to serve the party.

"If I am given the responsibility as an assemblyman, I will carry out that responsibility to the best of my ability."
