Jeli MP, who expressed support to PM helps BN candidate's campaign in Nenggiri

JELI: Jeli member of parliament Zahari Kechik, one of the six Bersatu members of parliament who pledged support for the prime minister, has been helping Barisan Nasional in its campaigning for the Nenggiri by-election.

Zahari said he has been travelling to Meranto often since the nomination on Aug 3.

"I have promised Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) and the state BN that I will help BN's candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani in his campaign activities.

"With the help of BN machinery from other states, we have been meeting the Nenggiri voters from one place to another.

"We want to ensure BN can win the state seat this time."

Zahari said he do not mind what others think about him as long as he can provide his assistance to the federal government by providing his service to BN.

Zahari was among six Bersatu MPs who have expressed support to Anwar last year.

The other five are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman ( Labuan MP) and Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), who was also the former Nenggiri assemblyman.

Previously, Bersatu, via its vice-president and chief whip, Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee confirmed that it had submitted the notice to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul's office on the status of its six MPs.

Kiandee in a statement on June 20 had said the notice was submitted in accordance to Article 49A of the Federal Constitution, asking Johari to declare the six seats vacant.

However, Johari informed Bersatu by letter that there was no vacancy of seats for the six former Bersatu members under that article of the Federal Constitution .
