PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy information chief Datuk R. Ramanan has pledged the party's support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.
He said the support underscores the coalition party's commitment to the unity government.
"Certainly, we will cooperate (for the campaigning), without a doubt. "We are partners and colleagues in the unity government. We will help each other.
"If there are occasional disagreements, sometimes that's normal. In a family, even parents who love each other dearly may argue.
"It is not an issue. Wherever we are, we stand as a team," he said during a press conference following a ceremony held in connection with the handing over of mock cheques as financing under the Prosperity, Empowerment and A New Normal for Indian Women (PENN) programme to entrepreneurs of Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) here today.
Also present were AIM Board of Trustees chairman Datuk Seri Syed Hussian Aljunid and AIM managing director Datuk Mohamed Shamir Abdul Aziz.
Kelantan Umno Youth chief Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani has been announced as the BN candidate for the Nenggiri state seat by-election on Aug 17.
The announcement was made yesterday by State Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, who is also the BN operations director for the Nenggiri by-election.
The Nenggiri by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the state seat, previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.
Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, was among the seven elected representatives sacked from Bersatu for declaring their support for the unity government.
During the Kelantan state election in August last year, Azizi secured a slim majority of 810 votes to win Nenggiri in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
