GUA MUSANG: Voters from three villages in the Serian polling district had to use boats to reach the nearest polling centre after their homes were affected by floods.
It is estimated that around 300 villagers were stranded after continuous heavy downpours last night caused the water level in a nearby river to rise and burst into the villages.
The flooding in the villages reached up to two meters following the heavy rain, causing water levels to rise significantly early this morning.
The affected villages are Kampung Batu 6, Kampung Batu 10 and Kampung Batu 11.
As a result, voters from these villages had to use boats and motorcycles, navigating through railway tracks to reach the polling centre at Balai Raya Batu 12, Serian.
Serian polling district chief Muhammad Rofi Ismail said he believed the heavy rain caused the water levels to rise, making it difficult for residents to vote.
"We did not expect such heavy rain to cause the water levels to rise," he said.
Mohd Hanafiah Ismail from Kampung Batu 11 said villagers had to use two boats owned by residents to reach the polling station.
"There might be delays in voting because we had to wait for our turn to use the boats," he said.
