Pas host retracts 'kafir harbi' remark following criticism

GUA MUSANG: Two days after his 'kafir harbi' (non-believers who are against Islam) statement aimed at DAP, a Pas member and host who made the remarks at the ceramah has apologised.

Zamri Zahari issued the open apology on his Facebook page today.

"I would like to express apologies for the mistake and the continuation of my words at a ceramah for Nenggiri by-election held in Kampung Sungai Asap on Aug 8.

"My statements were inappropriate and have offended the feelings of several parties.

"I admit that it happened because of high spirits during election campaigning. Therefore, with all sincerity, I withdraw my statement," he added.

Zamri said he also want to emphasise that as an activist and supporter of Pas and Perikatan Nasional, he was committed to the approach and ideals of 'democratic, legal, prosperous, inclusive, fair and dignified politics' in addition to rejecting the politics of defamation and extremes.

Kelantan Islamic Development, Dakwah, Information and Regional Relations committee chairman Mohd Asri Mat Daud confirmed the matter when contacted.

A two-minute video of the ceramah held on Thursday (Aug 8) has made the rounds on social media platforms.

Following this, DAP leaders yesterday demanded an apology from the individual over the 'kafir harbi' word used during a PN ceramah.

In a joint statement, DAP central executive committee (CEC) members — Syeikh Umar Bagharin Ali, Syahredzan Johan and Young Syefura Othman — also called on PN and Pas leadership to clarify their stance on the matter.

He added they strongly condemn the statement, adding that PN and Pas must clarify their stance on the matter.

Last night, Perikatan Nasional operations director for Nenggiri by-election Tan Sri Annuar Musa said they would not apologise to DAP over the issue.

He said this is because the remark was issued by an individual and did not represent the views of the Pas party.
