Gua Musang DAP Youth lodges police report over 'kafir harbi' remark

KUALA LUMPUR: Gua Musang DAP Youth has lodged a police report against a Pas member who labelled the party as 'kafir harbi' (non-believers who are against Islam) during a ceramah for the Nenggiri by-election in Kelantan recently.

Its chief, Nor Amin Shafiq Ismail, said the report was lodged to ensure that stern and immediate action would be taken by the authorities to maintain harmony and unity in the country.

"The statement made was irresponsible and dangerous as it (the individual) had used religion as a political tool.

"It can also potentially lead to tension and division among Malaysians of different faiths and races.

"We urge the police to investigate the matter and take firm action to ensure hate politics like this do not go rampant," he said in a statement, today.

Yesterday, DAP demanded an apology from the individual following the statement made against the party.

They also called on Perikatan Nasional and Pas leadership to clarify whether they agreed with the extreme statement made by the individual.

Meanwhile, PN operations director for the Nenggiri by-election Tan Sri Annuar Musa said the coalition will not apologise to DAP over the statement made by the Pas member.

He said this was because the statement was issued by an individual and did not represent the views of Pas as a party.

He also said PN will not suspend the member, but will instead 'cool' him off for several days.
