Government did not fund helicopter use in Nenggiri polls, says Zahid

GUA MUSANG: The helicopter being used by Barisan Nasional during the Nenggiri by-election is not being funded by the government, said party chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said as such, any party, including Periktan Nasional, could also use similar services if they wanted to, as long as it did not involve government funds.

The Deputy Prime Minister was responding to remarks made by Annuar, who claimed that helicopters had been used to ferry Umno leaders while campaigning in the by-election.

"That's not a government helicopter. It is not being paid by the ministry.

"If he (Annuar) wants to use it, I have no objections… He can wear LV (Louis Vuitton), and use a helicopter," he told reporters after the Temu Mata Bersama Masyarakat Kampung Limau Kasturi here, yesterday.

Annuar had claimed that chartering a helicopter would cost RM350,000 a day, thus would be a violation of the campaign spending limit.

He had previously been criticised for wearing luxury clothing while campaigning with the Orang Asli community for Saturday's polls.

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi had said although it was not wrong to wear branded items, Annuar should not flaunt his wealth and act more modestly especially when discussing the struggles of lower-income communities.
