Umno slams PN for 'copied' Nenggiri manifesto promises

GUA MUSANG: Umno has accused Perikatan Nasional of "copying" 80 per cent of the Putrajaya's promises for their Nenggiri by-election manifesto.

Kelantan Umno information chief Datuk Zawawi Othman said PN's actions reflected a lack of originality among the opposition coalition's leaders.

"A majority of PN's pledges in their manifesto align more closely with policies that the federal government will focus on," Zawawi said.

"I believe these promises can only be fulfilled if our candidate, Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani, wins the election."

He said he doubted PN would be able to deliver if they won as "some promises" involve funds managed by the federal government.

On Aug 12, PN unveiled 37 pledges in its manifesto for the Nenggiri state by-election. The manifesto was launched by Menteri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud during a ceremony in Renok.

The manifesto is built on seven pillars, forming the acronym 'KHIDMAT' (service), each involving three to five pledges related to community service, the economy and infrastructure, education, and digital transformation among others.

Among PN's promises are the appointment of officers at the assemblyman's service centre from the Orang Asli community, the upgrading of Orang Asli rural roads, and the formation of a special education team for the Orang Asli.

The Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17 will see a straight fight between BN candidate Mohd Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and PN's Mohd Rizwadi Ismail.

The by-election was called after Kelantan Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah declared the seat, previously held by Mohd Azizi Abu Naim, vacant.

In the Kelantan state election held last August, Mohd Azizi won Nenggiri with a narrow majority of 810 votes in a straight fight against a BN candidate.
