KUALA LUMPUR: MCA will mobilise all its members in Mahkota to ensure a decisive victory for its Barisan Nasional (BN) counterpart, Umno, in the by-election on Sept 28.
Wanita MCA Chief, Datuk Wong You Fong, said MCA's 3,987 members, accounting for 18.7 per cent of the total Chinese voters in the constituency, will play a crucial role in supporting BN's effort to retain the seat.
"We need to work hard to secure a significant victory in Mahkota. This is a crucial election, especially considering that BN is the leading party in Johor," Wong said during a press conference.
She added that the division's by-election machinery will be headed by its deputy chief, Tee Hooi Ling, with support from members across the country actively participating in the campaign.
Wong added that Wanita MCA will be involved in all aspects of the election preparation and the groundwork had already begun.
"Wanita MCA is ready to provide full support and assistance to Umno in this by-election, as we have stood united under the BN banner for 60 years.
"The relationship between MCA and Umno is like the saying, 'sharing the same pain, tending to the same wounds,'" she said.
The Election Commission had announced that the candidate nominations for the Mahkota by-election will be held on Sept 14, with polling scheduled for Sept 28.
The by-election follows the passing of the seat's incumbent, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, who also served as Umno Kluang Wanita chief.
The BN's candidate for the Mahkota state seat is expected to be announced next week.
Meanwhile, Wong said that the division's Annual General Meeting will be held on Oct 19 at the party headquarters.
To commemorate the division's 50th anniversary, a celebratory dinner event will be held on Oct 18 to honour the division's half-century of struggle and history.
