GUA MUSANG: The government should come up with a new mechanism to overcome the problem of party-hopping among elected representatives.
Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the issue of party-hopping would cause the government to become unstable if it did put a stop to it.
"We are now facing a state by-election (Nenggiri). This actually was not necessary but what can we do because of the culture of party-hopping here and there.
"So, l hope the government will introduce a new mechanism in the future to overcome the problem of party-hopping.
"If not, this practice will continue causing the government to become unstable and people will not believe in our political stability," he told reporters at the Ziarah Kasih programme in Sungai Asap here.
Meanwhile, Johari said he hoped Nenggiri voters living outside the area would return for the by-election on Saturday.
"For me, every voter has a responsibility to return to cast their votes and it is their responsibility to choose a representative.
"The people must judge the candidate first as we don't want a leader who hops from his party to be a leader," he added.
