GUA MUSANG: Mohd Asmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani who was announced as the winner for the Nenggiri state tonight, attributed his victory to Barisan Nasional's leaders and election machinery.
Without their hard work and dedication, Azmawi said he would not have won the by-election with such a large majority.
"I would like to express my gratefulness to God, my family, and my supporters for allowing me to win this battle.
"I would also like to thank the party's leaders especially Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and all of the voters for trusting me.
"Winning this by-election is not for me alone but for the party that l love. Barisan Nasional," he told a Press conference after the announcement of his win at Dewan Perdana here tonight.
The 38-year-old father of three won the Nenggiri by-election after defeating Perikatan Nasional's candidate Rizwadi Ismail with a 3,352 vote majority.
Asmawi obtained 9,091 votes while Rizwadi received 5,739 votes.
The result was announced by Returning Officer Nik Raisnan Daud at the Dewan Perdana vote-tallying centre about 9.30pm.
