GEORGE TOWN: Penang PKR Youth has called on the police to take stern action against Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin for his allegedly seditious remarks touching on 3R (race, religion, and royalty) made during the Nenggiri state by-election campaign.
State PKR Youth deputy chief Roshidi Roslan said the police must take immediate action against the Perikatan Nasional chairman for his indiscretion on the political stage.
"As a former prime minister, he should be more knowledgeable about the Federal Constitution. Instead, he has provided misleading information to the public, causing discontent among the people," he said today.
Earlier today, Umno Youth called on Muhyiddin to issue a formal and public apology for his allegedly seditious remarks.
The wing's chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the former prime minister's remarks created negative perceptions about the ability and authority of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as the Head of State, whose powers are enshrined in the Federal Constitution under Articles 40(2) and 43(2).
Roshidi said Muhyiddin's statement had attempted to link the ruler's actions to perceived unfairness in the decision to appoint the 10th prime minister.
He said the ruler, had at the time, considered all aspects, including discussions with the Conference of Rulers, before appointing Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the 10th prime minister.
"If Muhyiddin had the majority support of the Dewan Rakyat as prime minister, he could have proposed a vote of no confidence against Anwar in Parliament but he failed to do so up to now.
"This indicates that he does not have sufficient support to be prime minister," he added.
