No need for Umno to go solo in GE16, says Johari

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani says there is no need for Umno to go it alone in the 16th General Election (GE16).

He said now is the time for the component parties in the Unity Government to find their tempo and compatibility to win the election and form the federal government.

"Let's not talk too much about going solo. We have never gone solo, thanks to parties within Barisan Nasional (BN).

"We have MCA, MIC, parties in Sarawak and Sabah. We have all these parties under single coalition, Barisan Nasional.

"As such, the questions of going solo doesn't exist to me. Right now, we need to find the compatibility within our component parties (in the Unity Government) to form a government and elevate the country to a more progressive state in terms of its thinking," he said.

He was speaking to reporters at the 2024 Umno General Assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.

Johari, who is also Federal Territories Umno liaison chief and Titiwangsa member of parliament, was commenting on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's policy speech yesterday, during which the latter questioned the wisdom of Umno going solo in GE16.

Zahid had asked the delegates to consider the advantages the party holds now based on data, and current sentiments, including the bigger electoral roll. (Link: https://www.nst.com.my/news/politics/2024/08/1095773/zahid-umno-opting-n...)
