Ensure Anwar stays as PM, Amirudin tells PKR members

SHAH ALAM: PKR members have been urged to have faith in the party's reform struggle and to unite their strength to ensure that its president, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, continues as prime minister for a second term.

Party vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said despite the criticism PKR faces both internally and externally, such issues should not be used as an excuse to undermine the party's reform struggle.

This, he said, was as the reform struggle has been PKR's foundation since its establishment 26 years ago.

"In this struggle, we must not give up easily and we must not be blinded by offers.

"There are people who once seemed great but ended up faltering, losing focus and stepping back. Those who abandon their principles will eventually be swallowed up by history because they are betrayers of the reform movement.

"However, Anwar has never shown any signs of fatigue or withdrawal," he said at the 26th Anniversary of the Reformasi Movement celebration today.

Amirudin, who is also Selangor menteri besar, said while there were disagreements among party members regarding certain decisions and policies, the party must continue to move forward in its reform struggle and further strengthen its position in Putrajaya.

"We can be angry and critical of some policies and decisions, but we need to recognise the difference between major and minor setbacks.

"This country is in a recovery process. Alhamdulillah, previously, the opposition, Perikatan Nasional, frequently raised the issue of the ringgit, but our currency has now strengthened. (So) what can they do about it?

"This is why, with the confidence we have and the track record shown by Anwar's leadership, we must have faith and consolidate our strength to ensure he continues as prime minister for a second term," he said.

At the same time, he reminded the grassroots not to forget the core of the reform movement, which positions the eradication of corruption and abuse of power as the party's mission.

"Our loyalty and bond are not based on positions but on our belief that this struggle will ultimately lead to victory."
