Azalina: Accurate info key to avoiding election disasters in Mahkota

KLUANG: Barisan Nasional (BN) and Umno's election machinery for the upcoming Mahkota by-election has been urged to provide voters with accurate information to ensure they choose the right candidate, avoiding the mistake of "cutting off one's nose to spite one's face".

Umno information chief Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said said that clear and truthful communication was crucial to ensuring the selected candidate could effectively serve the Mahkota constituency.

She reminded the machinery to stay focused on the importance of unity within the government, coordinated at federal, state, and constituency levels.

Instead, she said there was a need for continuity in the work initiated by the late Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, urging voters to recognise that electing a BN or Umno representative would facilitate smoother governance, given the alignment with the Menteri Besar and executive council members.

"I would like to remind the machinery not to get influenced by race and religion issues as this is no longer suitable now because we want to choose a candidate who is able to continue the work of the late Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain. We all know that despite voting for the opposition, the state government will not change hands but we want continuity.

"If from BN and Umno (elected representative) it will be much easier as the Menteri Besar and executive council members are from BN. I want to remind the machinery here that they must not make the wrong choice like 'marahkan nyamuk bakar kelambu'," she said during a press conference after visiting the Taman Ilham voting district centre here today.

"Choosing the wrong candidate could lead to significant problems after the election, with issues such as unreturned calls and declined invitations. Therefore, during the campaign, it's essential to avoid touching on 3R issues – race, religion, and royalty," she added.
