Penang DAP state elections: "I'm not a candidate," says Sundarajoo

GEORGE TOWN: State Housing and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Seri S. Sundarajoo has clarified that he will not contest the Penang DAP state elections on Sept 22.

This came hours after Penang DAP made public the list of candidates contesting, with Sundarajoo's name among the 32 candidates contesting.

The top 15 with the highest votes will be elected to the state committee.

In a brief press statement, Sundarajoo clarified that he was not a candidate.

"My form, declining the nomination, was submitted after 5pm on Monday (Sept 9). Thus, it (his name) was not removed from the list of candidates.

"I was travelling from Kuala Lumpur back to Penang and the delay was due to this.

"I hereby would like to state my heartfelt appreciation to all delegates who have nominated me.

"Thank you for your confidence in me," he said.

Sundarajoo was among the new faces contesting on DAP'a ticket in last year's state elections.

He won the Prai state seat with 10,680 votes.

Following his victory in the state polls, he was made a member of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow's government's state executive council.
