Selangor Pas Youth proposes marrying non-Malays to boost votes

TEMERLOH: A Selangor Pas youth delegate today proposed that its members marry non-Malay wives to secure more votes.

Selangor Pas Youth secretary Aubidullah Fahim Ibrahim's remarks drew laughter from the crowd, with some cheering as he suggested the idea of mixed marriages.

"We from Selangor have a proposal...the Pas Youth chief (Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden) is not around now (to listen to this idea).

"We suggest that the youth movement leadership commit to marrying partners from different races and cultures.

"When marrying someone from another race or culture, we won't be securing just one vote but maybe 10 or even hundreds from non-Malays or non-Muslims," he told Pas Youth delegates at the annual muktamar at the Al-Makmur complex in Kerdau here today.

His proposal received cheers from the delegates.

Aubidullah Fahim then jokingly challenged Afnan Hamimi, who was in the hall, to take up the challenge before saying Selangor Pas Youth chief Sukri Omar would "lead the way".

Meanwhile, Afnan Hamim in his speech earlier, said luring support from non-Muslim voters was challenging due to "the enemy" actively playing up Islamophobia.

"Some of the newspapers also gave inaccurate reports about us which led to various wrong perceptions. There are some newspapers which provide correct reports, but not many," he said.
