Bersatu Youth chief busts fake statement on social media

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal has confirmed that a press statement circulating on social media is fake.

The false statement, which sought to discredit a previous remark by Pahang opposition leader Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, falsely claimed that any statements involving Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin required verification from Bersatu and did not reflect Perikatan Nasional's stance.

Wan Fayhsal, who is also Machang member of parliament, cautioned the public against spreading misinformation.

"Do not share if you are not sure," he advised when contacted by the New Straits Times.

Earlier today, Tuan Ibrahim, who is also Pas deputy president, called for a fair investigation into alleged seditious remarks made by Muhyiddin during the Nenggiri by-election campaign.

In his statement, Ibrahim urged all parties to avoid fueling unnecessary controversy over the issue, which has already drawn criticism from the Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.
