Kluang not left behind as Johor rises, says MB

JOHOR BARU: Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has poured cold water on claims that his administration is focused solely on developing the southern side of the state closer to neighbouring Singapore.

He said this was not true and that the state's development plans benefitted all districts, and this included Kluang.

High-impact projects like the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the Special Financial Zone were also a boon for Kluang residents.

"This includes job and business opportunities. I foresee Kluang potential to become a logistics hub for Johor," he said, adding this was because Kluang was located in the middle of the state.

Onn Hafiz said the ongoing Gemas-Johor Baru double-tracking rail project and expansion of the highway and federal roads in Johor will further boost Kluang's potential to become a logistics hub.

"It's just a matter of time and I'm certain there will be a new dawn in Kluang," he said in an interview at the Menteri Besar's official residence in Bukit Saujana.

Meanwhile, Johor Works, said Transportation, Infrastructure, and Communication committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh who was also present said traffic issues in Kluang were on his radar.

He said a RM60 million bypass would be built in Kluang, where some 30,000 cars pass through a day.
