Police clear BN candidate of criminal record allegations

KLUANG: Johor police have confirmed that Barisan Nasional's Mahkota by-election candidate, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, does not have a criminal record, dismissing allegations circulating on social media.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that a thorough investigation revealed Syed Hussien had no registered criminal convictions under the Registration of Criminals and Undesirable Persons Act 1969 (Act 7).

He added the case was referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office, which concluded that no further action would be taken.

"Police confirmed that no charges were brought against Syed Hussien or any other individual related to the case," he said in a statement today.

Bahrin urged political parties to conduct their campaigns responsibly and avoid exploiting sensitive issues such as religion, royalty, or race.

He also cautioned against making false statements about individuals and advised the public to refrain from spreading or believing unverified claims.

He warned that strict action would be taken against those who intentionally spread false information that could cause public alarm.

Earlier, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, accused Syed Hussien of involvement in an assault case during a campaign rally supporting Perikatan Nasional (PN) candidate Mohamad Haizan Jaafar.

However, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi refuted the allegations, saying that Syed Hussien was never arrested for being involved in a fight 16 years ago.

Zahid said that, based on the report he reviewed, Syed Hussien was actually defending a blind man who was being assaulted and harassed by a group of men.
