KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate for the Mahkota by-election, Syed Hussein Syed Abdullah, has been reminded to keep his promises and honour his commitments to the constituents following his victory.
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition's success in the by-election should not lead to boasting or complacency in serving the constituents in the future.
"Indeed, this victory carries with it a heavy trust, a responsibility that cannot be neglected.
"Instead, the wins in Nenggiri and Mahkota are a clear signal from the people that we must work even harder to deliver the best for a better future.
"God willing, we will continue to refine our path, becoming a driving force for further success for Umno, BN, the unity government and all Malaysians," he said in a statement today.
Earlier, it was reported that BN's Syed Hussein secured 27,995 votes, with a 20,648 majority to win the Mahkota by-election.
Perikatan Nasional's Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, garnered 7,347 votes.
Zahid, who is also Umno president, said BN's win in the Mahkota by-election was a testament to the invaluable service of the former assemblywoman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, who devoted her life to the constituency.
"Her contributions are deeply cherished and continue to inspire us to serve the people of this constituency with unwavering commitment."
He also expressed gratitude to the BN machinery and the unity government team for their part in securing this victory.
"This is especially towards the Johor machinery led by the Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.
"A special thanks as well to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his support, and I believe this victory reflects the people's acceptance of his governance and leadership."
