KUALA LUMPUR: Sarawak PKR chief Roland Engan wants the party to contest in the next Sarawak election, saying no party should prevent them from doing so.
This comes after a senior Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader warned PKR leaders against "rocking the boat" after it announced plans to contest the next state election.
Roland said all parties had the right to contest elections and that it was wrong to prevent any party from doing so in a democracy.
"Do not threaten any party to prevent them from contesting, this will only create unrest among the parties and Sarawakians," he said in a statement.
Earlier this week, FMT quoted Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah as saying Sarawak PKR should not "rock the boat" in the state.
Karim, a vice-president of GPS lynchpin, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu, said Sarawak PKR was free to contest the poll but should consider the ramifications of doing so, including on GPS' ties with the top PH leadership.
GPS is part of the PH-led unity government at the federal level.
Previously, Roland was reported as saying that Sarawak PKR will contest the next state polls which are due in 2026.
