Sabah DAP assemblyman retracts statement on declining Datukship, says he misspoke

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP lawmaker has retracted his statement about sending a letter declining the Datukship to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Likas assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt clarified that he misspoke during a press interview yesterday.

When met at the Integrity, Governance, and Anti-Corruption Convention, he had initially stated that he submitted the letter after his name was listed for the honorific title in conjunction with Head of State Tun Juhar Mahiruddin's 71st birthday.

"I misspoke yesterday. I did not submit a letter to the Chief Minister."

It was reported yesterday that Tan, who is also the state Assistant Finance Minister, was one of the recipients of the Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu (PGDK) award, which carries the title 'Datuk'.

He said he had declined the award and submitted a letter to Hajiji regarding this.
