Sabah PKR open to seat negotiations with any party for state election

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah PKR is open to exploring opportunities for collaboration in preparation for the anticipated state election next year.

"We welcome the proposal of the 17th state election seat negotiation committee, as suggested by the chief minister of Sabah recently.

"This is part of the effort to enhance cooperation and maintain the existing political stability," said Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.

Yesterday, Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional also held an informal discussion to identify common ground and respect differences of opinion in determining Sabah's political direction.

Sabah requires a different approach compared to Peninsular Malaysia, said Mustapha.

In preparation for the 17th state election, he said PH has already formed a seat negotiation committee and has held several meetings.

"Sabah PH intends to first complete its internal discussions and negotiations before initiating cooperation talks with any party or coalition," said Mustapha.

He emphasised that PKR wishes to focus the need for an inclusive approach to be implemented fairly.

"The discussions should also encompass the distribution of appointed state assemblymen, quotas for chairmen and board members of government-linked companies (GLCs), as well as positions at the state Legislative Assembly, village, and community levels," said Mustapha.

PKR said the fundamental principle of this cooperation should be based on good governance, prioritising the interests and welfare of the people.
