Sabah PH to settle seat negotiations first before talking to others

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) would only discuss with others after they have finalised their own seats negotiation.

Sabah Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) election director Datuk Peto Galim said the party has reached the last process of choosing the areas where it can compete.

"Tonight is our second meeting (with other PH leaders) to discuss the seats and we hope it will be the last," he said during a press conference at Sabah International Convention Centre here.

Present were Sabah PKR chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud and political bureau chief Datuk Seri Christina Liew.

Before discussing with other parties, Mustapha said PH would need to discuss and agree among the components.

"The process is like this. We discuss first at the PKR level to determine which chairs have potential. After that, we will bring it to the PH meeting.

"After that, we will hold a meeting with other parties. We welcome suggestions by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah president and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also our chief minister, who wants to have discussions.

"But please give us time to discuss it," he said, adding that Sabah PKR is given then autonomy to decide on the seats and direction that would involve local sentiments such as the 40 per cent revenue and rights related to Malaysia Agreement 1963.

Liew, who is also Sabah Pakatan Harapan chairman, said she was not worried about seats among the coalition as for the past 25 years, they have always managed to resolve disputes before nomination day.

"We evaluate them in terms of the evaluation process, which one is more proper, and more suitable to be the challenge for this constituency.

"We need to understand the issue faced by the locals, particularly the locals of Kawasan. How we can resolve that one. If there is a best person to do it, of course, he (or she) will be selected as a candidate."
