PUTRAJAYA: PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil has dismissed rumours circulating about a proposal to change the party's voting mechanism.
At a press conference today, Fahmi said no decision had been made to convert the party's current voting mechanism, which is a 'one-person, one-vote' system, to a delegate system.
"If you are unsure, do not share (such information). I have reviewed several reports, and as the party's information chief, I can confirm that no decision has been made.
"What has taken place are discussions, but no final agreement has been reached," he said when asked about the matter.
Previously, rumours circulated within PKR that a top party leader had proposed reverting to the delegate system as the voting mechanism in its polls.
Sources said the leader's suggestion to shift from the current one-person-one-vote system in favour of the delegate system — commonly adopted by most political parties in the country — had caused dissatisfaction among some PKR leaders.
Sources also said leaders opposing the proposal believed it deviated from the party's foundational principles of championing transparency and justice for all.
Meanwhile, Fahmi, who is also the communications minister and government spokesman, reiterated that the party's primary aim is to uphold its goal of representing all Malaysians.
"This will remain one of the guiding principles we adhere to when considering any matter moving forward.
"However, at this point, no decision has been made.
"Therefore, it is difficult for me to comment on speculation."
