SHAH ALAM: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) secretary-general Datuk Seri Azmin Ali called on party members to be ready for a general election, suggesting that it occur before the current term of the Madani government ends.
"I believe that with the pressure from the people today, who are calling the Madani government a failed government, Putrajaya has no other option but to dissolve parliament.
"We are ready for the general election," he said in his speech at the Ideal Convention Center Shah Alam here today.
Also present were Pas vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan.
Azmin said Bersatu leaders will continue to be strengthened in preparation for the upcoming election and show a strong commitment to assist every branch nationwide.
"I vow that this new leadership will go down to the ground and assist the grassroots at the branch and division levels to strengthen the party through increased membership and more branches.
"This is to ensure we are ready for the upcoming state or general elections, as a general election does not necessarily have to be held three years from now," he said.
Meanwhile, Azmin said, Bersatu's membership increased to nearly 700,000 this year, compared to 610,000 last year.
"The membership numbers reported also include over 30,000 Bersekutu members.
"This further demonstrates that Bersatu is a party that represents all the people of this nation," he said.
