Too early to talk about polls collaboration, says Sabah PH leader

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Pakatan Harapan (PH) says it is too early to talk about collaboration with Umno and Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming state election.

Sabah PH chairman Datuk Christina Liew said that the Sabah assembly's term would end only next year, so there is still a year to go. The 17th state election is due by Dec 7, 2025.

"Right now, what we do is to serve the people in our constituencies," said the Api-Api assemblyman.

"This applies to all the YBs (elected representatives). I think all of them are working very hard," said Liew, who is the state minister for tourism, culture and environment, after announcing the programme for Malaysia Day 2024, to be hosted by Sabah on Monday at Padang Merdeka.

"Whether you are in the government or opposition, I believe all YBs must go down to the ground first.

"So, this question is too early for me to answer," said Liew when asked about BN chairman and Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that Umno and Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) had agreed in principle to cooperate with PH in the state election.

In a press conference during his visit to China recently, Zahid said the decision to cooperate between Sabah BN and PH was mutual.

Previously, Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin said he would hold discussions with the Sabah BN committee to refine the cooperation with PH for the state election.
