KUALA LUMPUR: A top Pas leader has spoken out against Bersatu's grip over key posts in Perikatan Nasional, warning it could cause discord in the opposition coalition.
Datuk Hashim Jasin, the Islamic party's spiritual leader, said PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yasssin should consider redistributing leadership roles in the coalition.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Hashim said Pas, which governs Terengganu, Kelantan, Perlis and Kedah, and has strong grassroots support, should be given appropriate positions within the coalition.
Aside from Muhyiddin, other key roles in PN held by Bersatu leaders include Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (deputy chairman), Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali (secretary-general), Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu (information chief), Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (wanita chief), Datuk Radzi Jidin and Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee (Supreme Council members).
Hashim said he hoped changes will be made to satisfy all parties.
"I believe Pas members are also dissatisfied with the situation, where key PN positions are dominated by Bersatu," he said.
Previously, Pas vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar resigned as PN treasurer but has refused to comment on his reasons for doing so.
In its report, Utusan Malaysia said Samsuri's resignation was seen a protest against Bersatu's dominance of the top posts in PN.
Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz said the party has never sidelined Pas or any other component in PN and that Muhyiddin has discussed the issue with Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.
