NST Leader: Israel's impunitive war on truth

WANT another word for impunity? Israel is a perfect match. And Palestine, which Tel Aviv turned into a caged camp for the Palestinians, provides a more than 100-year-old reason for the synonymity.

Syria, and now Lebanon, provide two more modern-day reasons of the Zionist regime's impunitive  occupation drive.

Just as the France-United States ceasefire proposal was dangled, their ironclad ally in Tel Aviv killed it at the very instant, just like it did previous attempts at peace. If it scuttled them subtly in the past, it is on a blatant pursuit now. It has occupation on its mind.

Palestine is not enough. Israel wants Lebanon, Syria and more.

As this Leader goes to press, Israel has launched a wave of deadly attacks on the Lebanese capital Beirut, destroying six residential towers and killing six people and wounding 91, as reported by Reuters.

The media outlet, quoting a UN agency, also said Israeli air attacks in the recent past had killed more children than its war with Lebanon in 2006. It is clear that Israel is not after Hizbollah fighters in Lebanon, as it is not after Hamas in Gaza.

Israel is targeting civilians with the aim to either wipe or drive them out as it is doing in Gaza and in whatever that remains of Palestine. As the hubristic Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), he wants to fight until "total victory", meaning endless airstrikes and ground attacks against sovereign territories.

Notorious Netanyahu knows if the conflicts are brought to an end, it would mean a war crimes trial in The Hague for him and his war cabinet. He is on an occupation drive as Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib pointed out to the 79th UNGA.

He is right in saying that Israel's attacks — incessant wars and aggression, to quote him  — are turning the Middle East into "a black hole".

But this is a truth that Netanyahu and his Zionist regime don't want the world to know. It is for this reason he sent fully-armed soldiers storming into the Al Jazeera bureau in Ramallah in occupied West Bank in the early hours of Sept 22, ordering it closed.

Just in case Tel Aviv denies the raid, it was live-streamed for the world to see.

This follows a similar raid in May on its bureau in occupied East Jerusalem.

The Zionist regime's goal is crystal clear: put an end to people whose profession is to speak truth to power by either killing them or by shutting down news outlets. Truth — which the world is now beginning to realise — stands in the way of Tel Aviv's well-practised false narratives.

From Oct 7 last year until April this year, 90 Palestinian journalists have been killed, quotes a report by United States-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ).

Two Israeli journalists who dared to do the same were shot dead, too. But the Zionist propaganda regime fails to realise that in the age when everyone gets to write the story, truth will still get out.

Truth has always been bitter for the regime, whose very existence is built on false narratives.
