LETTERS: Malaysian sports sprang a new surprise by winning the men's World Dodgeball team Championship gold medal in Edmonton, Canada, beating Australia 10-5.
In the semi-final, they beat Canada, despite vice-captain Teh Wee Sheng hitting the ground and injuring his chin, which needed four stitches. That speaks of his warrior mentality to bring fame and honour to our nation.
Here we have a team in a new sporting event making heads turn despite their plight for funds, some even contemplating quitting the sports. Furthermore, we have won it twice before in 2017 and 2018.
The team trained for a year and having participated at the national championship, created history in winning a gold. The mixed doubles won a silver and the women's team finished fourth.
Another achievement was our player Carlos Goonting who won the Most Valuable Player Award.
This is our latest golden triumph on the world stage. Our men's badminton doubles pair, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, won the gold at the World Badminton Championship in Tokyo recently, creating history after 45 years.
We are becoming world beaters for sporting events and strengthening brand Malaysia as a sporting nation. Long may this trend continue.
