LETTERS: Enforcement agencies must take action against the import, sale and use of illegal firecrackers.
People will take advantage of festive seasons to import and sell these items.
For many years, the target buyer has been children.
The Kelantan Health Department recorded 17 cases of children injured while playing with firecrackers since March 25.
Parents must ensure their children do not play with illegal firecrackers, especially during festive seasons.
Parents or guardians who are found to be negligent about the safety of their children are subject to heavy penalties under the Child Act 2001 [Act 611].
Society should also play its part in protecting children. As some say, it takes a village to raise a child.
Additionally, the authorities should conduct operations to wipe out the sale of illegal firecrackers, including the sale of firecrackers online.
