Neighbourhood's security compromised by land clearing

LETTERS: Recently, there was a serious incident in my neighbourhood caused by land clearing by a developer that has significantly compromised security.

On July 24 between 1.25am 2.30am, an intruder trespassed into my neighbourhood. A vigilant resident heard some noise and phoned our security guards to get them to investigate.

When our the guards arrived at the scene of the disturbance, the intruder bolted and left behind a broken pipe with water gushing out and a fallen water filter.

The intruder was caught and handed over to the police.

As a member of the residents' association, the safety and security of our neighbourhood is a top priority. The developer's actions have not only stripped the natural barriers that once protected our community, they have also left us vulnerable to threats.

The lack of concern for the security implications of land clearing is very unfortunate. Residents are now fearful for the safety of their families and properties.

I strongly believe the developer has a responsibility to ensure that their land clearing does not affect the security of communities.

I brought this up with the general manager of the developer and she said she would look into the matter.

It is imperative that the developer take immediate action to rectify this situation by implementing security measures, such as increasing the height of the fencing at strategic locations (which they did) and providing better lighting.

It is essential that developers are held accountable for the consequences of their projects. They should prioritise the wellbeing and safety of communities.

I hope by shedding light on our predicament we can prompt the developer to take swift and effective action to restore the security of our neighbourhood.

In light of the intrusion, the residents' association has reminded residents to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activities to the guards or members of the association.
