KUALA LUMPUR: IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its portfolio in Malaysia.
This week marks the opening of the hotelier's and Yuk Tung Properties' first Crowne Plaza hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
The 38-storey hotel was originally scheduled to open in 2021. Both parties signed a management agreement in 2017.
The 320-room hotel is located on Jalan Yap Kwan Seng. In addition to 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space, it offers contemporary rooms and suites that range in size from 36 to 146 square metres.
Early next year, the hotel's executive lounge, signature suites, and Le Midi, a specialty French brasserie located on level 32, will open.
Crowne Plaza general manager, Kuljit Singh, said that the facility is more than just a hotel because of its flexible spaces.
"Our commitment is to create an environment that allows our guests to connect, be inspired, and thrive, ensuring every stay is a harmonious blend of work and leisure," he said.
IHG currently operates eight properties under the InterContinental, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express brands, offering guests a choice of more than 2,000 rooms.
Rajit Sukumaran, the managing director of IHG for Southeast Asia and Korea, reportedly said in March that the hotel group was busy delivering on its strategy of increasing its market share, with 11 hotels under development under six different brands.
He said that IHG was well-positioned to grow its portfolio over the next two years.
Asia Pacific will be IHG's future home with the opening of more than 90 Crowne Plaza hotels, including Crowne Plaza Penang Straits City and Crowne Plaza Kota Kinabalu Waterfront.
Three new brands will be introduced, namely Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, Regent Hotels & Resorts, and Hotel Indigo.
